Since we recently had a baby and the weather was so perfectly awesome today, I thought the best thing to do would be to reorganize the pantry or more accurately: the shelf where we store random jars of food. This shelf is a constant source of disorganized shame for me. The top holds a mishmash of “baking” items and the bottom holds the random assortment of half empty bottles that we call a bar. In between, on the second and third shelves, the dry goods are stored in air-tight plastic containers. It feels wrong to hold food in plastic…wasn’t there something about it poisoning foods or something a few years ago? Plus, the containers are unsightly. The clincher: sometimes the containers smelled weird and were oddly dirty around the impossibly inaccessible plastic ring.
Did you know that Mason jars can be bought on the cheap? For a lot cheaper than a set of plastic food-grade containers. And did you know they come in really big sizes? Oh, they do: quart size. Also, they make your food storage area look really classy. Advanced step: etch the containers!
