Rock Star: INXS or “Stop Go!”

March 26, 2008

Scott once said, while we both worked at Ask.com in 1999, that he liked to think about moments from TV shows we watched together when he was at work to pass the time. I like to do the same.

Rock Star: INXS was an oddly watchable show featuring a bunch of people I didn’t care about competing to front a band I didn’t care about and judged by a bunch of people who ranged from aging rockers (INXS) to waxed chested rockers (Dave Navarro).

Watch as the idiocy/brilliance is captured.

Navarro’s writers must have been working overtime because he busts out with the most brilliant critique of a lame song: “I felt that it had a little Electric Company feel to it.”

J.D. (the eventual overall winner) has “Human” and “Being” tattoo’d on his arm so that he can tell someone they are a “Human Being” but they were also “Being Human.” Sure, that’s awesome on its own, but he violated the rules of the songwriting contest by not being a team player!!! Luckily his song was THAT good…and Dave Navarro was THAT curious about it (sure, I’ll bite) that INXS turned it into a hot hot single.

Epilogue

It didn’t really work out.

In 2011, INXS with J.D. Fortune completed shows in Australia, England, Portugal, South America, Canada and the United States. In September 2011, J.D. Fortune and INXS announced that they had mutually agreed to go their own separate ways and pursue different artistic projects. Later Fortune said, “I had no idea I had left INXS the second time to be honest with you. I woke up August 18 and I had to find out from their web site, which, to this day, I still find bizarre.”
