Emoji with Young

As usual, my tech-savvy friend Young clued me into what the kids are doing these days: sending ghosts, sheep and flag of different countries via “text message“.

Image courtesy of Young himself, who also totally blogged about how awesome we are.

Full disclosure: it was my wife who got the ball rolling with “fox in the snow.”

Nice job, person who works at the online department of The Atlantic

It probably wasn’t the easiest story to have assigned to you after the Monday morning staff meeting, but job well done to the person who programmed DFW’s Host over at The Atlantic. Oh, come on: keeping track of all the class="COLOR" was probably a little bit of fun. The same could not be said for organizing and taming a few dozen pop-up windows. Unless they are using some fancy CMS over at The Atlantic…which I’m guessing they are…and not editing file by file like some mom and pop, indie rock on-line magazine.

For all the technical prowess showed by The Atlantic, and how true to the printed version they stayed, there is something compelling about being able to read all the footnotes at once, which The New York Times allows in the Federer piece. I wonder if The Atlantic people said “but NYT just has them on one page…can’t we do that?”

Wherein I discuss my rubber band projects

Rubber band ball kit

It’s been a busy couple of weeks:

  • Rubber band ball #1: at my desk at work.
  • Rubber band ball #2: co-hosted at Michaela’s desk at work.
  • Rubber band ball #3: (projected, future) To be made out of neon rubber bands.
  • Rubber band ball #4: arrived this morning, in kit form, from Corey.

Yep, that’s pretty much what I’ve got going on.
